We begin our exploration of Deborah as a judge, prophet, and woman. We discuss her significance as revealed in text through language, the manner in which her words are preserved, and the linguistic ties that connect her to some of Israel’s most significant leaders such as Moses and Samuel. We learn that her song is among some of the oldest and therefore most important theological statements found within the Old Testament.
