We get a glimpse of Eli and his sons in chapter. The sons are contrasted with Hannah - Hophni and Phinehas are presented as “sons of Belial” while Hannah insists that she should not be confused for a “daughter of Belial.” We discuss what happens when our spiritual leadership is not the reflection our Lord and his character, and how Eli’s failure to be a good father impacts the nation. Hannah’s bravery in going to the Tabernacle is display as we consider the violence of the day. And we explore how sins against women are presented in Scripture as sins against the Lord. Along the way, we see how Luke ties the women in Jesus’ life directly back to Hannah and her courage.
