Not a show to listen to with the kids, and the episode we didn’t want to record. We find Abraham having recovered from his circumcision, Sarah gets graphic about menopause, and rape takes center stage in these passages. Along the way, Abraham shows hospitality confirming the angels in human form operate differently from angels in heaven, and in doing so answers some questions about the how angels can function when in human form. We also talk about how the conflation of sex and marriage have muddied the waters both in how we read the Bible and how Christians talk about sex.
Abraham bargains with God for Sodom, and we see the first hints of what it means to be a prophet. Lot welcomes angels but makes a disturbing offer of his daughters. We dive into the “sin of Sodom” what that means based on the various passages where Sodom is mentioned in the Biblical text. And we explore why we may have missed the point of the Sodom account by failing to read the entire account.
