This week ask the question, how much did Abram know about this God he serves? And discuss how Abram’s understanding of family has to be realigned to include his wife as integral to the promise and fulfillment of the vision God has given Abram for his life. God enacts the covenant between him and Abram in the Covenant of Pieces that serves as a vivid symbol of what is to come in the lives of his children in the Divine Council Worldview context. Sarai complicates everything by inviting Abraham to take Hagar as a second wife, but sets the stage for God to show his love to a woman, a slave, and a foreigner in the first angelic visitation in the Bible.
We wrap up with everyone’s favorite story, God’s command that Abraham and all the men of his camp be circumcised. We talk about the importance of the act in the light of worship and obedience for the men of the Bible, and how it serves to demonstrate God’s love and protection for women.
